Trailblazers Fall on the Road at John A. Logan
CARTERVILLE, Ill. — The Vincennes University Baseball team dropped a midweek road contest Tuesday afternoon, falling 21–6 to John A. Logan College. The Trailblazers move to 6-11 overall on the season following the non-conference matchup.
John A. Logan jumped out to an early advantage, scoring three runs in the opening inning and adding another in the second to take a 4–0 lead. Vincennes responded in the third inning when freshman infielder Braden Casebier delivered an RBI double to score freshman Dillon Warnick and cut the deficit to 4–1.
The hosts quickly regained momentum with a decisive third inning, scoring 10 runs to extend their lead. John A. Logan continued to add to the advantage in the fourth inning before the Trailblazers mounted their strongest offensive stretch in the fifth.
Casebier sparked the rally again with a triple to drive in Warnick, and sophomore outfielder Jevan Andrews followed with a two-run home run to center field. Freshman catcher Ethan Papalios added a solo home run later in the inning, and freshman first baseman Matthew Everroad capped the surge with another solo homer as Vincennes scored five runs in the frame.
Despite the offensive push, John A. Logan responded with three additional runs across the sixth inning to secure the 21–6 result.
Casebier led the Trailblazers offensively with a strong performance, going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two RBIs. Papalios added two hits, including a home run and an RBI, while Andrews and Everroad each contributed home runs and RBIs. Warnick finished with a double and scored twice as Vincennes recorded nine hits in the contest.
On the mound, freshman Hayden May took the loss after allowing seven runs over two innings of work. Freshmen Parker Clarida, Jacob Tenbarge, Aiden Leonard, Elijah Papalios, Palmer Schiff, and Warnick each saw time on the mound in relief as the Trailblazers worked through their pitching staff.
Vincennes will now turn its attention to Midwest Athletic Conference play this weekend. The Trailblazers open MWAC competition with back-to-back doubleheaders at Lewis & Clark Community College, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, March 7, and 1 p.m. EST on Sunday, March 8.
