VU’s Caleb Johnson earns All-American Honors

VINCENNES, Ind. – Honors and recognition continued to pour in this week for Vincennes University sophomore Caleb Johnson (N. Preston, Nova Scotia) as VU's leading scorer earned NJCAA Third-Team All-American honors earlier this week.

"Being an All-American is a blessing," Johnson said. "The feeling to me is really unexplainable and I am truly honored to have my season capped off in such a way."

Johnson had already garnered All-Region 24 honors before leading the Trailblazers to the Elite Eight in the NJCAA National Tournament, Johnson's third time being named an All-Region honoree and putting him in a very exclusive list of players to be named to three All-Region teams in three different Regions during his time at the Junior College level.

Johnson earned All-Region 13 honors in 2021 while at Williston State Community College in North Dakota, before transferring to Angelina College in Texas and being named to the All-Region 14 team in 2022.

Johnson led the Trailblazers this season with an average of 16.6 points per game, including scoring in double-figures in 35 of VU's 36 games this season. Johnson also averaged 4.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, while averaging one block and just under one steal per game as well, earning him All-Region 24 honors this season.

Johnson got his first chance at playing at the NJCAA National Tournament two weeks ago in Hutchinson, Kan. and did not appear to be fazed by playing on the National stage, opening the tournament run with a 19-point performance against Trinity Valley.

Johnson helped guide the Trailblazers to a 30-6 record this season and helped VU earn their 10th NJCAA Tournament appearance in 11 years.

"Something that I will think about most when it comes back to this year is really everything about being at VU and being a part of this program," Johnson added. "I had an unforgettable experience and making it to the Elite Eight was an experience I will never forget. It's been a remarkable journey."

"This year at Vincennes has helped me develop a lot as an individual player and as a student in the classroom," Johnson said. "I am so thankful to have played for this team and this coaching staff."

Johnson has also been invited to tryout for the Canadian Basketball U23 team in June, which will compete in the GLOBALJAM U23 Tournament in July.

Johnson is the 54th NJCAA All-American in VU history and 18th under NJCAA Hall of Fame Head Coach Todd Franklin.
