No. 1 Trailblazers Surge Past Elgin to Move to 11–0
VINCENNES, Ind. — The No. 1 Vincennes University Men's Basketball team continued its undefeated start to the 2025–26 season Saturday night, rolling to a 101–66 victory over Elgin Community College inside the P.E. Complex. The win pushed the Trailblazers to 11–0 and capped a four-game homestand with another decisive offensive and defensive performance.
VU took command early, racing to a 56–41 halftime lead behind crisp ball movement, pace, and interior efficiency. The Trailblazers shot 51.4 percent from the field and 48 percent from three for the game, while generating 50 points in the paint and 12 second-chance points. A season-high 31 assists on 37 made baskets highlighted the group's unselfish approach, and VU's 61–20 dominance on the glass provided constant pressure through extended possessions.
Freshman point guard Drae Vasser directed the attack with one of his sharpest performances to date, finishing with 20 points on 8-for-12 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep, while adding 11 assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Sophomore Jalen Calloway delivered 17 points and five rebounds, continuing his efficient perimeter presence. Sophomore Dayton Williams was again a stabilizing force with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists, narrowly missing a triple-double while setting the tone defensively in key stretches.
Freshman forward Jevon Guess provided 12 points and five rebounds on 5-of-8 shooting, and freshman Alex Montes added 10 points, eight rebounds, and four assists in a strong two-way outing.
Defensively, VU held Elgin to 31.6 percent shooting, while limiting the Spartans to 12 points in the paint and only four second-chance points. Hall of Fame and 16th-year Head Coach Todd Franklin pointed to stretches of strong half-court discipline and ball pressure as key elements of the separation. "We worked harder on the things that matter, and you saw the results," Franklin said. "They were having trouble adapting to our size and our pace, and as we got sharper, the margin grew. In the second half we made the right passes, moved the ball properly, and made the right plays."
While encouraged by the response after an uneven opening segment, Franklin emphasized the standard required to keep climbing. "I thought we found some guys that did a pretty good job, but we can't be sloppy," he said. "We're not catching it clean enough, not cutting sharp enough, not sealing consistently enough. We were jogging back early. We worked harder after that, but we've still got to be better. We've played a lot of games against good teams, but the expectation is to improve every night."
Vincennes now turns its focus to its first Region 24 contest of the season, traveling to John A. Logan College on Wednesday, December 10 at 8 p.m. ET.
