TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Trailblazer Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams are no strangers to windy conditions, having battled them all season long and put that experience to use Saturday afternoon at the Sycamore Open track meet at Indiana State University. The VU Women’s team was led by another excellent throwing day from freshman Giorgia Fino (Italy) who took the top spot in the Javelin with a longest throw of 37.44 meters. Sophomore Chloe Knepp (Montgomery, Ind.) also held her own against some tough competition to finish seventh in the 400 meters, with a time of 1:03.45.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Vincennes University freshman Giorgia Fino (Italy) set a new VU school record in the Javelin last weekend at the George Glass Invitational at Taylor University. Fino then bounced back to break her own record Friday on day one of the Pacesetter Invitational at Indiana State University, placing second at the meet with a distance of 37.79 meters. Fino helped guide the VU Women’s Track team to a seventh-place finish as a team, scoring ahead of NCAA Division I programs like Indiana University and IUPUI.
VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University men’s and women’s track and field teams had an outstanding showing Saturday afternoon at the annual VU Bill Smith Invitational, named after former VU Track and Field coach and 2021-22 NJCAA Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Bill Smith. The conditions were tough Saturday to begin the outdoor track season, with temperatures hovering around the mid-30’s and 25 mile per hour wind all afternoon. The VU athletes braved the cold weather to pick up first-place finishes in 16 different events Saturday.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Vincennes University Track and Field teams looked to have hit their stride Saturday as the Trailblazers took part in the University of Indianapolis Track & Field Classic. Vincennes came away with seven first-place finishes on the day, including five for the VU men’s team and two by the women’s team. The Vincennes men’s team was led by freshman Mathew Keitany (Kenya) whose first place finish in the 3000 meter race was good enough to qualify for Nationals with a time of 8:52.16.
CHARLESTON, Ill. – The VU Track and Field teams began their 2022 Indoor season Saturday and had a strong showing at the John Craft Invitational hosted by Eastern Illinois University. Sophomore Kyle Stewart (Evansville, Ind.) took home the top spot in the Men’s Long Jump for Vincennes, finishing with a distance of 7.17 meters. Stewart would also place seventh in the Men’s 60 meter race with a time of 7.16 seconds. “Kyle Stewart won the long jump and his distance qualified him for Nationals,” VU Track and Field Head Coach Marty Rogier said. “It was a very good early season performance considering he is learning a little different approach system and he has really not jumped into a pit since last season. I believe he has some really good jumps coming.”
