HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Vincennes University Men’s and Women’s Track team had several athletes compete at the 2022 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Nationals hosted by Hutchinson Community College. The three-day event began on Thursday, with many Trailblazers active, led by the Women’s 4x800 meter relay team of freshmen Brittany Page (Bicknell, Ind.) and Hope Laughlin (Olney, Ill.) and sophomores Chloe Knepp (Montgomery, Ind.) and Kyra Young (South Bend, Ind.) finished 12th with a finishing time of 10:46.54. Kyra Young then competed in the 1500 meter on her own, finishing 13th place, one spot short of running in the finals, with a final time of 5:15.01.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Members of the Vincennes University Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams took part in another opportunity to surpass the NJCAA National Qualifying mark at Friday’s Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by Indiana University. The VU men’s team was led by sophomore Kyle Stewart (Evansville, Ind.), who took the top spot in the long jump with a jump of 7.21 meters. Vincennes came away with second and third in the 4x400 meter relay, with the team of freshmen Yamar Lyons (Kalamazoo, Mich.), Collin Sutton (New Albany, Ind.) and Jalen Bowman (Evansville, Ind.) and sophomore Manamanya Opiew (Indianapolis, Ind.) taking second with a time of 3:23.22.
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Trailblazer Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams are no strangers to windy conditions, having battled them all season long and put that experience to use Saturday afternoon at the Sycamore Open track meet at Indiana State University. The VU Women’s team was led by another excellent throwing day from freshman Giorgia Fino (Italy) who took the top spot in the Javelin with a longest throw of 37.44 meters. Sophomore Chloe Knepp (Montgomery, Ind.) also held her own against some tough competition to finish seventh in the 400 meters, with a time of 1:03.45.
MARION, Ind. – The Vincennes University Track and Field teams had a busy weekend, ending with the Indiana Little State Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion. VU freshmen Jalen Bowman (Evansville, Ind.) and Giorgia Fino (Italy) and sophomore Kyle Stewart (Evansville, Ind.) all took home the top spot in their various events throughout the two-day meet. The weekend actually began at an entirely different track meet, with VU freshman Nicholas Stanislaus (Grenada) making the short trip up US 41 to Indiana State University to take part in the decathlon at the Gibson Invitational Thursday and Friday.
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Vincennes University Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams competed Friday afternoon at the Brescia Bearcat Twilight Invitational in Owensboro. The VU Men’s team had a very good showing, ending the day with a second-place finish as a team, with the VU Women’s team placing ninth as a team. “What looked like it was going to be our first meet with good weather turned into another cool, rainy event,” VU Head Track and Field Coach Marty Rogier said. “But as they have done all season, these kids stepped up and performed well.”
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Vincennes University freshman Giorgia Fino (Italy) set a new VU school record in the Javelin last weekend at the George Glass Invitational at Taylor University. Fino then bounced back to break her own record Friday on day one of the Pacesetter Invitational at Indiana State University, placing second at the meet with a distance of 37.79 meters. Fino helped guide the VU Women’s Track team to a seventh-place finish as a team, scoring ahead of NCAA Division I programs like Indiana University and IUPUI.
UPLAND, Ind. – Vincennes University freshman Giorgia Fino (Italy) set a new school record in the javelin throw Saturday afternoon as the Trailblazers took part in the George Glass Invitational hosted by Taylor University. Fino’s throw of 112 feet or 34.13 meters set a new Vincennes University Women’s Outdoor school record, surpassing the previous set by Sue Buechler in 1988. The VU Track and Field teams faced tough competition Saturday afternoon, with Fino’s record-setting throw giving her a second-place finish in the meet.
VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University men’s and women’s track and field teams had an outstanding showing Saturday afternoon at the annual VU Bill Smith Invitational, named after former VU Track and Field coach and 2021-22 NJCAA Cross Country and Track & Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee Bill Smith. The conditions were tough Saturday to begin the outdoor track season, with temperatures hovering around the mid-30’s and 25 mile per hour wind all afternoon. The VU athletes braved the cold weather to pick up first-place finishes in 16 different events Saturday.
PITTSBURG, Kan. – Vincennes University freshman thrower Armin Beham (Austria) received All-American honors for his performance at the 2022 NJCAA Indoor National Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas this weekend. Beham placed sixth against some of the best throwers in the country with a best throw of 15.90 meters to receive the honor. Sophomore Manamanya Opiew (Indianapolis, Ind.) and freshman Mathew Keitany (Kenya) had busy weekends, competing in three different events during the two-day meet.

The VU women’s team was led by a good performance in the 400 meters by sophomore Chloe Knepp (Montgomery, Ind.) who placed second with a time of 1:01.36.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. and INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Vincennes University Men’s and Women’s Track and Field teams took part in a pair of meets over the weekend, in hopes to continue to improve and get closer to the qualifying mark in several events. The weekend started with the Hoosier Hills Classic hosted by Indiana University on Friday. The No. 23-ranked VU Men’s team was led Friday by the Distance Medley Relay team of Manamanya Opiew (Indianapolis, Ind.), Trenton Faulkner (Vincennes, Ind.), Ernest Momodu (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Mathew Keitany (Kenya), who placed third with a time of 10:50.41.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Vincennes University men’s and women’s Track and Field teams both entered this week ranked No. 21 in the country in this week’s polls. The Trailblazer teams defended these rankings well at Friday’s Tiger Paw Classic in Louisville hosted by Campbellsville University and Georgetown College. VU’s men’s team dominated the 1000 meter race, with the blue and gold coming away with three of the top four finishers.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Vincennes University Track and Field teams looked to have hit their stride Saturday as the Trailblazers took part in the University of Indianapolis Track & Field Classic. Vincennes came away with seven first-place finishes on the day, including five for the VU men’s team and two by the women’s team. The Vincennes men’s team was led by freshman Mathew Keitany (Kenya) whose first place finish in the 3000 meter race was good enough to qualify for Nationals with a time of 8:52.16.
CHARLESTON, Ill. – The VU Track and Field teams began their 2022 Indoor season Saturday and had a strong showing at the John Craft Invitational hosted by Eastern Illinois University. Sophomore Kyle Stewart (Evansville, Ind.) took home the top spot in the Men’s Long Jump for Vincennes, finishing with a distance of 7.17 meters. Stewart would also place seventh in the Men’s 60 meter race with a time of 7.16 seconds. “Kyle Stewart won the long jump and his distance qualified him for Nationals,” VU Track and Field Head Coach Marty Rogier said. “It was a very good early season performance considering he is learning a little different approach system and he has really not jumped into a pit since last season. I believe he has some really good jumps coming.”
