Nate Robertson enters the season with a clear target in the discus ring and a competitive edge shaped by record-chasing expectations. His primary individual goal is qualifying for nationals, while helping the program win multiple meets throughout the year. One of the defining moments of his athletic career came when he set a school record, an achievement that continues to fuel his drive to see his name next to the top marks.
Nate’s motivation is simple and internal—if a record exists without his name on it, he wants to change that. He operates with a blunt, no-nonsense approach, guided by the advice to “shut up and just throw it.” Standing out immediately due to his height, he brings confidence and intensity into training, trusting preparation over words.
In the classroom, Nate majors in Surveying Technology and plans to become a licensed surveyor. He lists Surveying Technology as his favorite class and values the hands-on, field-based nature of the program. His academic interests align closely with his appreciation for mapping, land, and precision—skills that translate well both academically and athletically.
Outside of competition, Nate spends much of his time waterfowl hunting and fishing. He lists steak as his favorite food and rice as his preferred snack, enjoys watching skeet shooting, and names Step Brothers as his favorite movie. He says he can’t imagine a week without being outdoors and is often met with a simple reaction when first meeting people: “dang, he’s tall.”
Nate chose Vincennes University because of its Surveying Technology program and the opportunity to balance his academic path with athletics and outdoor interests in a close-knit campus environment.
Coach Mangan on Nate...
"Nate is working hard to learn the weight throw this winter, but is really looking forward to the spring when he gets to throw his priority events with the Discus and Hammer."
