Bio

Travis Herb serves as the Assistant Coach – Pole Vault for Vincennes University Track & Field, a position he began in January 2025. In his first season, Herb played a key role in the Trailblazers’ national success, coaching Sophia Salvi (São Paulo, Brazil) to both NJCAA Indoor and Outdoor National Championships. Salvi cleared 4.15 meters to win the 2025 Indoor title and 3.81 meters to claim the Outdoor crown. Herb also guided Tony Keene (Harrisburg, Ill.) to a Men’s Outdoor National Runner-up finish with a vault of 4.65 meters. Additionally, he mentored Maliek Bush (Jeffersonville, Ind.), who earned All-American honors in the decathlon, highlighted by a 7th-place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.50 meters.

In addition to his collegiate role, Herb continues to serve as Head Track and Field Coach at South Knox Middle/High School, where he has coached since 2016. Under his leadership, South Knox has produced state finalists in five of the past seven seasons (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2024), set 13 new school records, and secured five Blue Chip Conference titles. Over the course of his 23-year coaching career, Herb has developed 14 IHSAA state finalists in pole vault and 25 state finalists across all events.

Herb holds Level 1 USA Track and Field certification, as well as Level 2 certifications in both Jumps and Sprints/Hurdles. Herb earned his Bachelor of Science in Science Education from Indiana State University (2003) and a Master of Arts in Science and Environmental Education from Indiana University Bloomington (2011).
