NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Vincennes University Women's Basketball team turned in a dominant road performance Friday night, rolling to a 93–21 victory over Trevecca Nazarene University JV in non-region play. The win improves the Trailblazers to 11–6 overall.
VU controlled the game from the opening tip, building a 19–9 lead after the first quarter and exploding for 38 points in the second period to take a commanding 57–14 halftime advantage. The Trailblazers maintained their focus through the second half, continuing to rotate lineups and extend the margin while limiting Trevecca to single-digit scoring in each remaining quarter.
VU displayed impressive balance offensively, with all ten players scoring and multiple contributors reaching double figures. Sophomore guard Netala Dixon led the way with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting, adding five rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Sophomore guard Zion Hayes and sophomore forward Taliya Heron each scored 12 points, while sophomore forward Selena Wilson added 11 points and seven rebounds. Freshman forward Lazarie Daniel followed with 10 points to round out the double-figure scoring for the Trailblazers.
As a team, VU shot 51.3 percent from the field, scored 66 points in the paint, and dominated the glass 55–16. The Trailblazers also generated 40 points off turnovers, collecting 19 steals while limiting Trevecca to 21.6 percent shooting from the field.
First-year Head Coach Nyla Johnson emphasized her team's maturity and ability to stay focused despite the nature of the matchup. "I was really proud of our kids for staying locked in and being good teammates," Johnson said. "There were moments where we didn't start the way we wanted, but our players picked each other up, stayed encouraging, and were able to flip the switch when we needed to."
Johnson also highlighted the value of the game in continuing to build chemistry and balance within the rotation. "I liked our balance tonight and the way we were able to play a lot of different lineups," she said. "That's important for us as we keep working on chemistry. I thought we rebounded the ball really well and shared it, and overall I was happy with how we approached the game."
Winners of three straight, VU now turns its attention back to Region 24 play. The Trailblazers return to action Wednesday, January 21, traveling to Olney Central College for a key region matchup scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
