Bio
Shelby Burke brings a versatile, team-centered approach into the season as a multi-event athlete in women’s track and field. Competing across the sprints, relays, jumps, and throws—including the 100, 200, 400, 4x100, 4x400, long jump, high jump, and shot—she is focused on expanding her event range while continuing to grow as a leader within the program. One of the most memorable moments of her career came when she tied her high school’s long jump record at the Blue Chip meet, a performance that reflected both consistency and competitive confidence.
Shelby is motivated by family, drawing inspiration from her nana and papaw and guided by the belief that nothing should be taken for granted. She values preparation and carries the mindset of “practice how you play” into both training and competition. Known for her steady presence, she emphasizes connection and encouragement, aiming to help the team grow closer while pushing toward shared goals.
Academically, Shelby is currently undecided on a major as she continues to explore her interests. She values being close to home and appreciates the balance Vincennes provides between athletics, academics, and personal growth as she works toward identifying her long-term path.
Away from competition, Shelby enjoys doing hair and makeup, weightlifting, walking, flipping home décor, and spending time with friends. She lists spaghetti as her favorite food and cottage cheese as her go-to snack, enjoys watching track and field, and says she can’t imagine a week without her phone. She also notes a creative side—one many don’t realize—through her love of dancing.
Shelby chose Vincennes University because of its proximity to home and the opportunity to compete in a supportive, close-knit environment where team culture and personal development are equally emphasized.
