Bio

Elena Gabellini brings an international background and a long-term, process-driven mindset into her first season with Vincennes University women’s track and field. Specializing in the hammer throw, she is focused on improving her personal best while continuing to adapt to collegiate competition in the United States. Her broader season objective includes contributing to a throws group capable of pushing past the 50-meter mark as a unit. One of the most meaningful moments of her athletic career came when she competed in a high-level meet and recognized how much she had grown, both technically and mentally, as an athlete.

Elena is motivated by a daily desire to improve and reach her full potential as both a student and competitor. She lives by the advice to trust the process and remain consistent, even when progress feels gradual. Although she may come across as quiet when first meeting people, she describes herself as highly competitive once she steps into training or competition. She values commitment and views effort as something that should be reflected every day.

Academically, Elena is currently undecided on a major but plans to pursue a degree related to sustainability or environmental studies. Her long-term goal is to work in the environmental field while remaining connected to athletics. She sees her time at Vincennes as an opportunity to develop academically, strengthen her English skills, and fully immerse herself in American collegiate life.

Away from competition, Elena enjoys cooking, hiking, and experimenting with baking desserts, especially those involving cinnamon. She lists pizza as her favorite food and cake as her preferred snack, enjoys watching track and field, and names Sara Fantini as her favorite athlete. She says she can’t imagine a week without training, learning, and setting new goals, reflecting a lifestyle built around growth and balance.

Elena chose Vincennes University because of the immediate connection she felt with the coaching staff and the program’s emphasis on dedication and mental focus. She values the support provided by her coaches and sees VU as the right environment to continue developing both as an athlete and as a student while pursuing her long-term goals.

Coach Mangan on Elena...

"A mid-year transfer from Italy, Elena is quickly showing her abilities in the indoor weight. In the spring, she will excel in the Hammer throw as she holds a personal best that is close to being an automatic national qualifier."
