Bio
McKenna Poyser enters the season with a steady, self-driven focus as a pole vaulter for Vincennes University women’s track and field. Her individual priority is straightforward—continue raising her personal best—while keeping a team-first mindset centered on helping the entire group reach nationals. One of the most consistent highlights of her athletic career has been qualifying for regionals every year in high school, a run that reinforced her reliability and competitive mindset.
McKenna draws her motivation primarily from her mother and operates with a clear internal standard summed up by the advice she values most: it’s you versus you. She approaches training with purpose and personal accountability, believing progress comes from staying committed to her own process. Known for her high energy and positive attitude, she brings enthusiasm into practice while keeping her focus on long-term improvement.
Academically, McKenna majors in Nursing and plans to earn her master’s degree with the goal of becoming an emergency nurse practitioner. She lists nursing lab as her favorite class and values hands-on learning that directly connects to her future profession. Since arriving at Vincennes, she has continued developing practical medical skills while balancing the demands of athletics and coursework.
Away from competition, McKenna enjoys running and reading, noting that many people don’t realize how much she reads in her free time. She lists potatoes as her favorite food and Cheez-Its as her go-to snack, enjoys watching baseball, and says she can’t imagine a week without going to the gym. Her teammates often recognize her for her upbeat energy and willingness to support others.
McKenna chose Vincennes University because of its nursing program, which she felt best aligned with her academic goals while allowing her to continue competing in track and field as part of a close, supportive team environment.
