VU’s Sullivan Named All-American
VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University Women's Volleyball program added another milestone to its tremendous 2025 season this week, as freshman outside hitter Kenli Sullivan was named to the NJCAA Division I Third Team All-America list by the national selection committee. Sullivan becomes just the third VU volleyball player to earn All-America honors since the program moved to Division I and is the first freshman in school history to receive the national distinction. The award caps an outstanding debut season in which she also earned Region 24 Most Valuable Player and All-Region 24 First Team honors.
A standout from Bloomington North High School and native of Bloomfield, Indiana, Sullivan delivered one of the most productive freshman campaigns in the nation, finishing the year 19th nationally in total kills (399), 25th in kills per set (3.38), 16th in total points (481), and 15th in points per set (4.1). She added 313 digs, 53 total blocks, and 43 service aces, while playing all six rotations and maintaining a consistent presence at the net and in the back row. Her impact was even more impressive considering she missed six matches due to a midseason injury.
"This means a lot," Sullivan said. "As a freshman, my goal was just to work hard, learn, and help the team however I could. Being named an All-American is something I never expected, and I'm grateful for it. None of this happens without my teammates — they pushed me every day and helped me adjust to the college game. I'm proud of what we accomplished together this season."
She also reflected on what the accomplishment represents for her personally. "I take a lot of pride in how much time and effort I put into this sport," she said. "To see that work recognized at the national level is really special. It makes me want to keep pushing and become an even better player going forward."
Head Coach Gary Sien, completing his 10th year at VU, said Sullivan's combination of maturity and steadiness set her apart early. "I'm extremely proud of Kenli," Sien said. "For a freshman to earn All-America honors at this level is rare. She handled everything we threw at her — six rotations, big moments, different responsibilities — and never flinched. She's humble, consistent, and one of the most reliable players I've coached."
Sien added that the honor reflects both individual excellence and the strength surrounding her. "Kenli will be the first to say this is a team award," he said. "Volleyball depends on everyone doing their job, and her teammates put her in positions to succeed. This recognition speaks to the work of the entire group and the direction our program is headed."
Sullivan's honor comes at the close of a season in which the Trailblazers finished 30–10, captured the Region 24 regular-season championship, reached the Region 24 Tournament final, and advanced to the NJCAA Midwest District Championship, continuing the program's rise as one of the premier two-year volleyball programs in the Midwest.
