Trailblazers Fall at Frontier in Non-Conference Play
FAIRFIELD, Ill. — Vincennes University Baseball dropped a non-conference road contest Tuesday evening, falling 14–3 to Frontier Community College. With the loss, the Trailblazers move to 19-35 overall.
Frontier broke through in the middle innings after a scoreless start, plating four runs in the third to take control. VU answered in the fourth when freshman Dillon Warnick delivered his first collegiate home run, driving in freshman Matthew Everroad to cut into the deficit. The Trailblazers added another run in the sixth on Everroad's sacrifice fly, scoring freshman Carson Reed, who led off the inning with a double. However, Frontier responded with two runs in the fifth before breaking the game open with an eight-run sixth inning to pull away.
Head Coach Chris Barney, in his 18th season at the helm, noted the team's competitiveness early before the game shifted late. "This was a game where we competed for five innings against Frontier before they broke it open in the sixth," Barney said. "It's tough coming off a four-game weekend and having to rely on the bullpen against one of their top starters, but we'll bounce back and be ready for Thursday."
Reed went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored to lead off the sixth inning rally, while Everroad went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Warnick went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, accounting for the Trailblazers' biggest swing of the night.
VU was limited to three hits in the game, with Frontier's starter striking out nine and keeping the Trailblazers off balance throughout.
On the mound, freshman Carter Williams (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) over 2.2 innings. Freshman Parker Clarida, freshman Jackson Bauer, freshman Palmer Schiff, freshman Brody Wenzler, and freshman Jacob Tenbarge all saw action in relief as VU worked through its pitching staff.
VU will return to action Thursday, April 30, with another non-conference matchup at Frontier Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.
