VU Season Ends at Region 24 Tournament
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Vincennes University Baseball saw its 2026 season come to an end Friday at the MWAC/Region 24 Tournament hosted by Parkland College. After falling 7–6 to host Parkland in the tournament opener, the Trailblazers dropped a 15–7 decision to Danville Area Community College in an elimination game to finish the year at 20-38 overall.
Game One — Parkland 7, Vincennes 6
VU opened postseason play with a tightly contested battle against tournament host Parkland College but came up just short in a 7–6 loss.
After Parkland took a 1–0 lead in the second inning, the Trailblazers answered with two runs in the third before erupting for three more in the fifth and adding an insurance run in the sixth to build a 6–1 advantage. Parkland responded with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 6–5 before scoring twice in the eighth inning to reclaim the lead. The Trailblazers were then held scoreless in the ninth as Parkland secured the 7–6 win.
Freshman Matthew Everroad led the offense, going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while freshman Tannar Patterson finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Sophomore Carter Gricius went 1-for-4 with an RBI, and freshman Carson Reed added a 1-for-4 performance with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Evan Doran went 1-for-4, while freshman Dillon Warnick scored twice and drew a walk as the Trailblazers totaled eight hits.
Freshman Kaagen Kendall delivered the postseason start on the mound, allowing five runs over 5.1 innings while striking out four. Sophomore Jacob Allen worked 2.1 innings in relief, allowing two runs, and redshirt sophomore Alex Wandersee (2-1) was charged with the loss after appearing in the eighth inning.
Game Two — Danville Area Community College 15, Vincennes 7
Facing elimination later in the day, Vincennes battled offensively but was unable to slow Danville Area in a 15–7 loss.
The Trailblazers struck first with a run in the opening inning before Danville answered with three runs in the bottom half and added two more in the second to take control early with a 5-1 advantage. VU battled back with three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take the lead at 7-6, but Danville responded with a six-run sixth inning and added three more in the seventh to close out the game.
Freshman Matthew Everroad once again powered the offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Freshman Dillon Warnick went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while freshman Tannar Patterson finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Freshman Palmer Schiff added a 2-for-4 performance, and freshman Ethan Papalios went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Sophomore Carter Gricius finished 1-for-2 and scored a run, while freshman Carson Reed added an RBI on a 1-for-3 performance, as VU finished with 11 hits in the contest.
Freshman Talan Meyers started and allowed five runs — two earned — over 3.1 innings. Sophomore Grayson Reichert worked 2.1 innings in relief, allowing four runs, before freshman Drake Hoffa (2-3) and freshman Carter Williams also saw action on the mound.
The loss concludes the season for the Trailblazers, who battled through one of the region's toughest schedules while earning wins over nationally ranked opponents throughout the spring. VU also reached postseason play after entering the year as the defending MWAC/Region 24 champions.
