VINCENNES, Ind. – Trailblazer guard DJ Brewton announced on twitter Tuesday night that he will be returning to Alcorn State University in Mississippi. “Alcorn State has been consistent throughout the year recruiting me,” Brewton said of his decision. “They were considerate of the injury I’ve been fighting since late December.” Brewton helped guide the Blazers to a 17-7 record during the 2021 season and led VU to their record-setting ninth-straight NJCAA National Championship tournament appearance.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The 2021 Vincennes University Trailblazer season came to an end Monday afternoon after VU fell in the opening round of the 2021 NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball tournament to Holmes (Miss.) 71-66. VU got off to a slow start offensively, falling behind 9-3 early, before going on a 7-0 scoring run to take the lead. The Bulldogs answered back with a 6-0 scoring run of their own and held the lead the rest of the half, heading into the break with a 37-31 advantage.

Hutchinson, Kan. – The No. 15-seed Vincennes University Trailblazers received an At-Large bid to the NJCAA National Championship tournament last weekend and are putting together their final preparations for their first round matchup with the Holmes College Bulldogs of Mississippi. Holmes comes into the NJCAA Tournament as the Gulf Region Champions, after pulling off three-straight upset wins over LSU-Eunice, top-seeded Pearl River and No. 2-seed Northwest Mississippi in the Gulf District tournament. The Bulldogs are 15-3 on the season after playing a complete Division-I schedule this year.

Logan in the Central District Championship game Friday night. The Volunteers jumped out to the early lead, gaining a 13-5 advantage. Vincennes would respond to narrow the margin to 23-20 midway through the first half, before Logan would expand the lead to double-digits just before the half. A three-point basket at the buzzer gave the Vols a 39-26 lead at the break on their home floor.

The Blazers responded late in the first half and carried that momentum through the second half to come away with the 62-48 win over the Warriors at the P.E. Complex. Vincennes got the scoring started early, jumping out to a 5-0 lead, before Wabash Valley would respond with a 19-3 scoring run of their own.

ULLIN, Ill. – Trailblazer sophomore DJ Brewton helped put the team on his back at then of Saturday afternoon’s VU win at Shawnee, scoring Vincennes’ last five points including racing down the court to hit a buzzer beating three to give No. 15 Vincennes the 69-66 win. The first half was a game of scoring runs, with Shawnee taking the lead on a 6-0 scoring run, only for the Trailblazers to match with a 7-2 run to retake the lead, followed by the Saints answering back again with an 8-0 run to put Shawnee up 20-14 midway through the first. Shawnee held their lead throughout the rest of the first half, heading into the locker room ahead 34-28 over Vincennes.

VINCENNES, Ind. – Vincennes University hosted their second game in three days as the No. 18-ranked Trailblazers hosted Kaskaskia Wednesday night. VU grabbed their second win of the week by the final score of 79-64. The first half was the back-and-forth battle we’ve come to expect in Region 24, with the lead changing hands five times and Vincennes having their largest lead of nine midway through the half.

VINCENNES, Ind. – In what is likely the NJCAA Game of the Week, the No. 8 Vincennes University Trailblazers played host to No. 6 John A. Logan. In a defensive battle that saw neither team shoot above 37-percent from the floor, Vincennes fell by the score of 53-41.

Robinson, Ill. – Vincennes University fell four spots in the NJCAA Division I rankings this week to No. 8 and for the second week in a row the Trailblazers were upset on the road on Monday after falling to Lincoln Trail 82-79. VU started the game hitting from distance, as threes from Randy Tucker, Brandon Muntu and Brevin Jefferson helped the Blazers build a 15-5 early lead.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The No. 4-ranked Vincennes University Trailblazers captured their first Region 24 win of the season with an 80-73 victory over Lake Land College Wednesday night. The first-half was another back-and-forth slugfest, with each team building seven point leads and the lead changing three times in the first 20 minutes.

VINCENNES, Ind. – The Vincennes University men’s basketball team has received the commitment of DJ Brewton (Cincinatti, Ohio) to join the Blazers for the 20-21 season. The 6’3 guard spent the past year playing for NCAA Div. I school Alcorn State University where he registered five double digit scoring games and went on an impressive run late in the season. Prior to playing for Alcorn State, Brewton played at Dohn Prep where he averaged 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists.
