Chattin, Gibson Impress at Golfweek Invite
MUNCIE, Ind. – Representing Vincennes University on the national stage, Cameron Chattin and Kadin Gibson competed as individuals at the Golfweek "Put Me In Coach" Invitational, hosted by Ball State University at Delaware Country Club. The 54-hole event featured an elite field of NCAA Division I programs, including Michigan State, Purdue, Miami (Ohio), Ball State, Marshall, and Valparaiso, offering the Trailblazer duo a valuable opportunity to test their games against some of the top collegiate golfers in the country.
Freshman Cameron Chattin impressed from start to finish, firing rounds of 71, 72, and 73 to finish 13th overall at +6 (216). Competing against Big Ten and Mid-American Conference players, Chattin showed poise and consistency across all three rounds. "Cameron had a really good event, finishing 13th against Division I players from a variety of major institutions," said Head Coach Dennis Chattin. "The 54-hole format over just two days is challenging physically and mentally, and adding the pressure of playing against that level of talent makes it an incredible growing experience. I know he caught the attention of several Division I coaches when they realized he was a JUCO player. Because we have 'University' in our name, people sometimes don't realize we're a junior college — but Cameron made sure they knew who Vincennes was by the end of the week."
Sophomore Kadin Gibson also gained valuable experience, finishing tied for 28th at +19 (229) with rounds of 72, 79, and 78. While the scoring conditions were demanding, Gibson showcased stretches of high-level play, holding his own against some of the nation's best collegiate golfers.
"Getting Kadin and Cameron into this field was a real treat," Chattin said. "To have two of our guys compete alongside Power Five programs says a lot about the direction our team is headed. These experiences are invaluable — they build confidence and show our players that their games can hold up against anyone."
The Trailblazers — who are receiving votes in the Bushnell/Golfweek NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll, presented by the Golf Coaches Association of America — will conclude their fall season at the Cobra Fall Classic, hosted by Parkland College on Oct. 20–21 at Lincolnshire Fields Country Club in Champaign, Illinois.
