OWENSBORO, Ky. – The 2021 Outdoor Track and Field season continues to roll along as the Vincennes University men's and women's teams headed south to Owensboro where the Trailblazers came away with a team win on the men's side.
The VU men's team had an excellent showing in all events, but it was the field events where the Trailblazers really shined Friday.
Vincennes picked up wins in the men's high jump, long jump, shot put, hammer, discus, javelin and pole vault.
Blazer Kyle Stewart picked up the win in the men's long jump, setting a mark of 7.47 meters.
"The highlight of the meet for me way Kyle Stewart's long jump," VU Track and Field coach Chris Gafner said. "His jump moved him into the top five all-time list in school history. It also ranks him third in the NJCAA this year."
The VU men's runners picked up their share of wins Friday as well, highlighted by Trenton Faulkner winning the 800 and 1500 meter runs, while also being a part of the men's 4x400 relay team that won as well.
Ian Boit, Jahod Fair and Manamanya Opiew also came away with race wins, with Boit winning the 5000 meters, Fair winning the 400 meter hurdles and Opiew winning the 3000 meter steeplechase.
For the VU women's Track and Field team, the runners stole the show, winning the 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 meter steeplechase, with an impressive one-two finish in the 1500 meter race.
For the women's field events Makinzi Meurer picked up wins in the pole vault and javelin along with teammates Chloe Knepp and Ryann Griesemer who finished second in the long jump and high jump, respectively.
