Bio

Preston Stokell enters the season with a clear technical goal and an athlete’s mindset built around preparation and balance. Competing in the pole vault, he is aiming to clear 16 feet while helping the team compete for wins throughout the year. One of the defining moments of his career came when he won a regional championship, a result that reinforced his confidence and confirmed his ability to perform when it matters most.

Preston approaches both athletics and life with a steady, grounded outlook. He is motivated by making the most of each day and believes strongly in surrounding himself with the right people. Known for his positive attitude and composure, he emphasizes consistency, recovery, and mental readiness, noting that learning when to slow down has been just as important as learning when to push.

In the classroom, Preston majors in Fire Science and plans to pursue a career in firefighting. He lists EMT as his favorite class at Vincennes and values the practical, real-world application of his coursework. The program played a key role in his decision to attend VU, aligning directly with his long-term career goals.

Away from the runway, Preston spends much of his time fishing, enjoying lake activities such as wakeboarding and jet skiing, and staying active outdoors. He lists sushi as both his favorite food and snack, enjoys 80s rock, and names How to Train Your Dragon as his favorite movie. He says he can’t imagine a week without sleep and is often described as polite and approachable when first meeting others.

Preston chose Vincennes University for its smaller environment, strong Fire Science program, and the opportunity to build close communication with his coaches while continuing to grow as both a student and a pole vaulter.

Coach Mangan on Preston...

"Pound for pound as strong as anyone, Preston will be a factor in both the Pole Vault and the Javelin."
