Bio

Outfielder and pitcher Deacon Lewis brings resilience, versatility, and a driven underdog mentality to the Vincennes University baseball program. A native of Fishers, Indiana, Lewis chose Vincennes as a strategic step toward reaching the highest level of college baseball, recognizing the opportunity to continue developing his skills while preserving eligibility and pursuing academic goals in Biochemistry with future plans in the pharmaceutical field.

Motivated by a desire to prove doubters wrong, Deacon embraces competition as fuel for improvement. Throughout his career, he has often been told he was not good enough or overlooked for top opportunities, experiences that shaped both his mindset and even his jersey number — a reminder of being viewed as “second rate” and a constant push to exceed expectations. His goals at VU center on becoming a consistent contributor both on the mound and in center field while helping the Trailblazers build a winning culture defined by energy and accountability.

A multi-sport standout at Hamilton Southeastern High School, Deacon competed in baseball, football, and track and field, even balancing baseball and track simultaneously during his senior year while advancing to the state meet in track. One of his most memorable athletic moments came on the football field, delivering a forced fumble during the Mudsock rivalry game kickoff unit, a moment that highlighted his athletic instincts and ability to rise to big occasions.

Known for being approachable and positive when meeting new people, Deacon values team chemistry and believes strong relationships are key to success. Inspired by dual-threat superstar Shohei Ohtani and motivated by advice reminding players that baseball is a game built on failure, he focuses on maintaining confidence and consistency through the ups and downs of competition.

Away from athletics, Deacon enjoys playing video games, watching television, and spending time with friends while continuing to refine his skills through extra hitting and lifting sessions. With aspirations of playing professional baseball while also preparing for a future career in pharmaceuticals, he approaches each opportunity with determination, gratitude, and a commitment to daily improvement — always focused on proving that hard work can redefine expectations.
