Jaret Phillips

Bio

Outfielder/first baseman Jaret Phillips brings a balanced combination of competitiveness, humor, and long-term vision to the Vincennes University baseball program. A native of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Phillips chose Vincennes because of its strong academic value and respected engineering pathway, allowing him to pursue a Civil Engineering degree while continuing to compete at the collegiate level.

Motivated by the desire to create a better future for the people around him, Jaret credits his parents and personal ambition as driving forces behind his work ethic. His goals entering each season reflect both individual accountability and team success — earning a starting role every day, playing clean defense, and contributing offensively with power while helping the Trailblazers build a winning record and enjoy the journey together. One of the defining moments of his career came during a sectional semifinal when he delivered a go-ahead home run, a performance that highlighted his ability to rise to important moments.

A former team captain at Jeffersonville High School, Jaret earned Academic All-State recognition while helping lead his team to a sectional championship. He also competed in tennis, developing coordination and composure that translate well to his defensive versatility at both first base and in the outfield. Influenced heavily by St. Louis Cardinals legend Yadier Molina — the reason behind his jersey number — he developed a deep appreciation for preparation, leadership, and attention to detail within the game.

Known for leaving a confident and easygoing first impression, Jaret values relationships built through athletics and credits the friendships formed at Vincennes as one of the most rewarding aspects of being a student-athlete. Since arriving on campus, he has embraced the challenge of living independently and growing away from familiar surroundings, viewing it as an important step toward adulthood.

Away from baseball, Jaret enjoys golfing, disc golf, and spending time in the gym, rarely going long without finding a way to stay active. His interests also reflect curiosity and creativity, from imagining what it would have been like to fly with the Wright brothers to jokingly chasing ambitious records far outside baseball. Looking ahead, he hopes to build a career as a civil engineer while continuing to compete as long as possible, guided by advice reminding him that the people you surround yourself with ultimately shape who you become.
