VINCENNES, Ind. — Vincennes University Baseball dropped three of four games in a Midwest Athletic Conference series against Lincoln Land Community College on March 13–14 at Jerry Blemker Field. The Trailblazers picked up a win in the second game of the series but ultimately fell in the other three contests, moving to 10-15 overall and 4-4 in Region 24/MWAC play.
Game One — Lincoln Land 16, Vincennes 5
Lincoln Land opened the series with a 16–5 victory despite a solid offensive effort from the Trailblazers.
Freshman first baseman Matthew Everroad led VU at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, and two RBIs. Freshman second baseman Grady Hartman added two hits and an RBI, while sophomore outfielder Evan Doran also recorded two hits and drove in a run. Freshman designated hitter Jaret Phillips contributed a hit and scored a run, and freshman shortstop Tannar Patterson added an RBI.
Sophomore right-hander Eastin Whaley (2-2) took the loss after allowing seven runs over four innings. Freshman Parker Clarida, freshman Carter Williams, freshman Jackson Bauer, sophomore Ben Goodaker, and freshman Tyler Singleton each appeared in relief for VU.
Game Two — Vincennes 9, Lincoln Land 2
The Trailblazers bounced back in game two with one of their strongest performances of the series.
Sophomore right-hander Jacob Allen (4-2) delivered a dominant outing, throwing a complete game while allowing just four hits and two runs over seven innings to earn his fourth win of the season.
At the plate, freshman first baseman Matthew Everroad drove in two runs, while freshman second baseman Grady Hartman, sophomore outfielder Jevan Andrews, and freshman outfielder Palmer Schiff each added RBIs. Freshman designated hitter Ethan Papalios recorded two hits — both doubles — and freshman shortstop Tannar Patterson also finished with two hits as the Trailblazers totaled eight hits in the win.
VU broke the game open with a four-run third inning and added four more runs in the fourth to take control.
Game Three — Lincoln Land 13, Vincennes 1
Lincoln Land regained control of the series in the opening game Saturday, defeating the Trailblazers 13–1. Eight defensive errors proved costly for VU, allowing Lincoln Land to extend innings and generate additional scoring opportunities throughout the contest.
Freshman shortstop Tannar Patterson led the VU offense with two hits, including a double, and drove in the Trailblazers' lone run. Sophomore center fielder Jevan Andrews recorded a hit and scored the team's only run, while sophomore catcher Carter Gricius also added a hit. VU finished with four hits in the contest.
Freshman left-hander Kaagen Kendall (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs in the opening inning. Redshirt sophomore Alex Wandersee, sophomore Grayson Reichert, and sophomore Cole Trevino all appeared in relief for the Trailblazers.
Game Four — Lincoln Land 26, Vincennes 24
The series finale turned into an offensive battle, with Lincoln Land edging Vincennes 26–24 in ten innings in a high-scoring contest. Eight defensive errors again proved costly for the Trailblazers, helping Lincoln Land capitalize on extended innings in the high-scoring finale.
Freshman outfielder Tommy Holman delivered one of the most productive offensive performances of the season, going 4-for-6 with two home runs and four RBIs. One of Holman's home runs came in the bottom of the ninth inning, a three-run blast that tied the game and capped a late Trailblazer rally to extend the game to extra innings.
Freshman first baseman Matthew Everroad also drove in four runs and collected two hits, while freshman designated hitter Ethan Papalios recorded two hits, scored four runs, and added an RBI. Freshman infielder Tyler Singleton scored twice and reached base multiple times, while sophomore outfielder Jevan Andrews added a hit and RBI. Freshman infielder Ryan Crawford finished with two hits and a run scored, and freshman shortstop Tannar Patterson contributed a hit and two RBIs as the Trailblazers recorded 16 hits in the contest.
Freshman right-hander Braeden Burton started on the mound for VU, while freshman Talan Meyers, freshman Drake Hoffa, freshman Elijah Papalios, freshman Dillon Warnick, and freshman Palmer Schiff all saw action in relief as the teams combined for 50 runs in the series finale.
VU returns to Midwest Athletic Conference play March 21–22 when the Trailblazers host Illinois Central College at Jerry Blemker Field. First pitch for the series opener is scheduled for 1 p.m. EST.
