Bio

Infielder Maddox Riley Ray brings a straightforward, hard-working approach and strong blue-collar mindset to the Vincennes University baseball program. A native of Bedford, Indiana, Ray chose Vincennes because of its strong trade school opportunities, allowing him to pursue a machining degree while continuing to compete in collegiate athletics and prepare for a long-term career goal of owning his own machine shop.

Family serves as Maddox’s greatest source of motivation, shaping both his work ethic and long-term ambitions. Guided by advice reminding him never to sell himself short, he approaches each opportunity with humility and determination. His personal goals center on being a dependable teammate and contributing to a winning culture, while team success remains simple in his eyes — finding ways to win every day.

A multi-sport athlete at Bedford North Lawrence High School, Maddox competed in baseball, basketball, and football, developing toughness and versatility through year-round competition. One of the most memorable moments of his athletic career came on the football field during a rivalry matchup against Seymour, an experience that reinforced his appreciation for competition and teamwork in high-pressure environments. He also earned Academic All-American recognition, highlighting his commitment in the classroom alongside athletics.

Known for keeping things simple and authentic, Maddox values strong relationships within the clubhouse and credits the connections built with teammates as one of the best parts of being a student-athlete at Vincennes. Since arriving on campus, he has embraced the balance between academics and athletics, recognizing the opportunities available through hands-on learning compared to traditional work environments.

Away from baseball, Maddox enjoys golfing and spending time outdoors, often choosing activities that allow him to stay active and competitive. Inspired by family influences — including his brother’s connection to his jersey number — he carries personal meaning into every time he steps onto the field. Looking ahead, he hopes to build a successful future in machining while continuing to play the game as long as possible.
