CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Vincennes University Baseball dropped both ends of a Saturday doubleheader at Cleveland State Community College, falling 8–1 in game one and 16–1 in game two. The losses move the Trailblazers to 0-3 overall.
Game One: Cleveland State 8, Vincennes 1
Cleveland State plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never relinquished control in the 8–1 victory.
Vincennes was limited to three hits in Saturday's opener. Freshmen Tyler Singleton and Grady Hartman each recorded a hit, while freshman Carson Reed added a pinch-hit single. The Trailblazers' lone run came in the sixth inning when sophomore Jevan Andrews reached on an error, allowing freshman Wyatt Mullen to score.
Sophomore Eastin Whaley took the loss, working 2.1 innings and allowing six runs, just one earned, while striking out five. Freshman Parker Clarida provided 3.2 innings of relief, giving up two runs and striking out three. Although VU allowed just seven hits, eight walks and early defensive miscues proved costly.
Game Two: Cleveland State 16, Vincennes 1
In the nightcap, Cleveland State capitalized on early scoring opportunities and broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning on the way to a 16–1 win.
Freshman Kash Chiles recorded Vincennes' lone hit of the game. Freshman Matthew Everroad accounted for the Trailblazers' only run, scoring in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly by freshman Braden Casebier.
Sophomore Alex Wandersee started and went 2.0 innings, allowing six runs, four earned. Freshman Tyler Singleton followed with one inning of relief, and freshmen Aiden Leonard, Brody Wenzler, and Jackson Bauer also saw action as the Trailblazers cycled through multiple arms. Cleveland State drew 11 walks and totaled eight hits in the contest.
Vincennes will look to bounce back in the series finale Sunday, February 8, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. EST at Cougar Field.
