Motivated by self-improvement and guided by the belief that “the most important play is the next play,” Alex Montes approaches every game with calm confidence and relentless drive.

A proud product of the Puerto Rico National Team, Alex has already competed on basketball’s global stage, finishing sixth in the FIBA World Cup — an experience that strengthened his leadership and hunger to reach even greater heights. His goal this season is to earn All-American honors and help the Trailblazers capture a national title. Known for his versatility and composure, Alex embraces pressure moments, saying his motivation comes from “proving myself every day.”

Off the court, Alex enjoys golf, trips to the beach, and good food — especially rice with breaded chicken, his self-proclaimed comfort meal. His easygoing personality is balanced by humor and focus, and he admits that most people’s first impression of him is surprise — “they don’t think I’m Puerto Rican.” He’s a fan of anime (Naruto), music from Omar Courtz, and movies like Focus, while dreaming one day of driving his ideal car — a Lamborghini Murciélago.

Alex chose Vincennes University because “Coach made me feel at home,” and the family-like atmosphere reminded him of his roots in Puerto Rico. Pursuing a degree in General Studies, he hopes to combine his education with his basketball journey to eventually become both a professional athlete and business owner.
