Meredith Mitchell's journey in basketball has been shaped by faith, resilience, and humor — three qualities that define both her personality and her game.

Meredith’s goals for the season are clear and ambitious: “Work my way into the starting lineup, help build a strong team bond, and win a conference championship.” Her motivation comes directly from her family, who she says push her to be better every day. She wears No. 42 in honor of her favorite player, Brittney Griner, a symbol of both inspiration and identity. Her favorite quote — “Don’t let anyone dim your light” — reflects her positive mindset and refusal to let setbacks define her.

Her most memorable athletic moment came during a high school game in Kentucky, where she played through a tough fall that left her with a black eye after hitting a metal chair — a moment she now laughs about but sees as proof of her toughness. A graduate of Fairborn High School, Meredith developed her game with the Ohio Phoenix under coaches Jordan Johnson and Bo McClure, experiences that taught her the value of teamwork and accountability.

Off the court, Meredith’s personality is as colorful as her creativity. She loves pottery, cooking, baking, drumming, photography, and drawing, finding peace in artistic expression. Her favorite foods are chicken alfredo and gummy bears, and her favorite show is Euphoria, which she calls “real and raw.” Her playlist is filled with R&B and rap, especially “Collide” by Justine Skye, and her dream vacation is a trip to New York City. She describes herself as tall and funny — a mix that makes her both a leader and a lighthearted presence around her teammates.

Majoring in Mass Media, Meredith dreams of becoming a sports photographer or professional coach, blending her love for storytelling and athletics. She also plans to referee part-time, continuing her involvement in the game from different angles. Her advice to kids — “Don’t try to grow up too fast; enjoy being a kid because it doesn’t last forever” — reflects the wisdom she’s learned along the way.

Meredith chose Vincennes University because of its “good campus, amazing coach, and free education,” but she stayed because of the culture and community she found here.
