Bio
At VU, Dakota Waskom’s season goals are ambitious: he wants to win a national championship individually and as part of the team. Guided by the advice that “no pain, no gain” and motivated by music, he embraces the work ethic needed to compete against top programs. Known for his laid-back demeanor, he says when people first meet him, they usually just think he is “chill,” but his teammates quickly discover his competitiveness. He wears #13, the number he grew up with and one that carries family significance, and lists his motto as “just putting in hard work behind the scenes.”
Off the lanes, Dakota is pursuing a degree in Leadership and Management in Technology, with career goals of eventually owning a company or becoming a coach. His dream job, however, is to play professionally on the PGA Tour, reflecting his lifelong love of golf. He enjoys golf, football, and Xbox, and admits that nobody knows just how much time he spends golfing. His favorite foods are wings and chips, his favorite movie is Happy Gilmore, and his favorite TV shows are sports programs. He also enjoys Playboi Carti’s music, with Sky as his go-to song. Dakota dreams of visiting the Dominican Republic, attending a Baltimore Ravens game, and breaking the record for the lowest round of golf.
Dakota chose Vincennes University because it felt like the right fit and provided him with the chance to balance athletics with academics. Supported by his parents, Darren Waskom and Kelly Murdoch, and siblings Kelsey, JJ, and Chesla, he says the best part of being an athlete at VU is meeting other athletes and supporting different teams, especially basketball . With his relaxed personality, competitive goals, and family support, Dakota is ready to make his mark as a Trailblazer.
Coach LeMond on Dakota...
"Dakota will serve as team captain again after earning Player of the Year in 2024–25. He averaged 195 last season and is expected to push that toward 210 while providing strong leadership."
