Coddington Leads Trailblazers to Sixth at AHBA II
CANTON, Mich. — The Vincennes University Men's Bowling team capped its weekend at Super Bowl Lanes with a strong performance in Sunday's American Heartland Bowling Association (AHBA) II tournament, finishing sixth overall in a deep and competitive 20-team field.
The Trailblazers totaled 6,939 pins on the day, using a balanced effort and a late surge in Baker play to secure their third top-10 finish in four weeks. The team opened with strong individual performances before carrying that momentum into the afternoon Baker block, where consistency proved key down the stretch.
Head Coach Paul LeMond said he was proud of the group's resilience through one of the toughest lane conditions they've faced this season. "It was very, very difficult," LeMond said. "The lanes hooked early and played tricky all day, but we did a great job of staying focused and just battling. We never quite got everyone lined up at the same time, but the guys kept grinding, and that's a good sign for where we're headed."
Freshman Cadyn Coddington led the charge, finishing third overall individually with a 689 three-game total (229.7 average) after rolling games of 220, 256, and 213. His effort earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team, recognizing the top five individual performers in the event. LeMond said Coddington's performance set the tone for the team's approach throughout the day. "Cadyn making the All-Tournament Team was big for us," LeMond said. "That's the top five in singles, and he's really setting the standard for what we expect. He kept his composure, made good moves, and led by example from start to finish."
Sophomore Carter Martin also impressed with a 645 series (215.0 average) to place 10th overall, while junior Nick Gregg turned in a 612 set (204.0 average) for 27th. LeMond noted that their steady scoring helped anchor the team when transitions became unpredictable. "Carter and Nick bowled great, and together they kept us competitive all day," he said. "We're learning how to read lanes faster and communicate better as a group, and that's starting to show."
Additional scoring contributions came from junior Dakota Waskom (370), junior Dylan Lewis (357), and junior Eli Fromm (335), helping the Blazers total 3,008 pins in the traditional block. In the afternoon Baker round, VU averaged 188.6 across 15 games, highlighted by strong finishes of 234, 213, and 193 as the team rallied late to solidify its top-six placement.
As the season approaches its midpoint, LeMond said the focus remains on refinement and growth rather than results alone. "We'll go back to the drawing board a little bit—talk about ball choices, lane play, and when to make adjustments," he said. "We're still a young group with a lot of potential, and the key is just continuing to grow and help each other every week."
The Trailblazers return to action November 8–9 at the Wright State Raider Classic at Beaver-VU Bowl in Beavercreek, Ohio.
