Trailblazers Earn Top-10 Finishes at Boilermaker Classic
LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Vincennes University Men's Bowling team turned in a strong two-day performance at the Boilermaker Classic, hosted by Purdue University at Mike Aulby's Arrowhead Bowl, placing third in Saturday's traditional event and eighth in Sunday's Baker-format tournament. With each day operating as an independent competition, the Trailblazers continued their midseason surge while navigating challenging lane play and deep tournament fields.
Saturday – Traditional Play
VU opened the weekend with a steady, composed effort across six traditional games, finishing third with a total of 4,773 pins (795.5 average). Strong back-end momentum—powered by games of 1,012 and 1,015 in the fifth and sixth games—secured the Trailblazers' top-three finish.
Sophomore Ryan Weber led Vincennes with a 1,002 series (200.4 avg.), placing ninth overall. Junior Nick Gregg followed closely with 967 pins (194.3 avg.), finishing 15th, while junior Dylan Lewis contributed an 857 series, highlighted by games of 245 and 223. Junior Dakota Waskom (516), freshman Cadyn Coddington (510), freshman Nick Hubbard (561), junior Eli Fromm, and sophomore Tad Harvey all added meaningful contributions throughout the block.
Head Coach Paul LeMond praised his team's patience and toughness: "It was a grind today," LeMond said. "The lanes played tough from the start, and it was one of those days where you had to stay patient and mentally tough. I'm proud of how our guys stayed in it and fought through every game."
VU's depth showed as well — sophomore Carter Martin, competing in the junior varsity division of the event, finished 13th overall individually, giving the Trailblazers three bowlers inside the top 15. As a group, VU's second team finished fifth overall (4,236 pins) in the junior varsity division.
Sunday – Baker Competition
Sunday's format shifted to 25 Baker games, and the Trailblazers battled their way to an eighth-place finish with 4,526 total pins (181.0 average). VU's best stretch came in the middle of the block, where they rolled multiple games above 210, including a day-high 223.
LeMond noted that the group continues to grow in confidence and communication. "We've been bowling a lot of different types of tournaments lately, and each one teaches you something," he said. "Baker play is all about communication and rhythm, and I thought our guys handled it well. We just need to find that extra spark at the start to stay ahead early."
Despite finishing outside the top five on Sunday, the Trailblazers' ability to remain competitive through transitions and breakdown patterns highlighted their continued progress. "We're getting stronger mentally every week," LeMond added. "When you face this level of competition and still find yourself in the mix every weekend, that tells me we're doing the right things."
The Boilermaker Classic marked VU's fourth straight weekend with a top-10 finish, further cementing its upward trajectory.
Vincennes returns to action November 22–23 at the McKendree Match Games, hosted at St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
