Sien’s Squad Extends Region Streak with Sweep of Lincoln Trail
ROBINSON, Ill. – The Vincennes University Volleyball team kept its strong season rolling Monday night, earning a straight-set road win at Lincoln Trail College (25-20, 25-13, 25-23). The victory pushes the Trailblazers to 18-2 overall and 9-0 in Region 24 play.
VU controlled much of the first two sets behind a balanced offensive attack. Kenli Sullivan led with 10 kills, 10 digs, and two block assists, while Martyna Sadowska added an efficient seven kills on .438 hitting with four total blocks. Taryn Thuis chipped in seven kills on .467 hitting and three blocks, and Paulina Krawczyk contributed eight kills, four digs, and a pair of blocks.
The third set tightened as the Lakers found a rhythm, but VU held strong down the stretch. Head Coach Gary Sien credited his team for responding in a tough road environment. "It's always tough playing at Lincoln Trail. They have a good crowd in a loud, small facility, and they usually challenge us," Sien said. "For the most part, we did a great job taking their fans out of it early with our play."
The Trailblazers' setters once again distributed the offense effectively, with Rylee Edwards handing out 18 assists and eight digs and Scarlet Konkel adding 11 assists and 15 digs. Edwards' steady play stood out to her coach: "Rylee ran a very efficient offense tonight. We usually score well during her rotations, and this match was no exception," Sien said.
Defensively, libero Adaline Eisenmann was a difference-maker, finishing with 25 digs and two aces. Sien praised her all-around presence: "Adaline is one of the top liberos in the nation. It was really hard to put a ball down against her—she covers corner to corner and makes our offense quicker by taking balls with her hands. She's playing with tremendous confidence."
Sien also emphasized the context of the win given VU's demanding schedule, noting the quick turnaround from the weekend trip to Alabama. "This was a great win for us after such a demanding schedule. Coming off four matches six hours away in Alabama and then playing again on a Monday, I give our players a lot of credit for their effort tonight. It's another good region win on the road."
The Trailblazers will now look to carry that momentum into another Region 24 test Wednesday night when they travel to Kaskaskia College, with first serve set for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
