Trailblazers Sweep Southeastern Illinois, Push Record to 11-1
HARRISBURG, Ill. – The Vincennes University Volleyball team continued its strong start to the 2025 season Wednesday night, rolling to a straight-set Region 24 victory at Southeastern Illinois College. The Trailblazers won 25-14, 25-15, 25-19 to improve to 11-1 overall and 5-0 in Region 24 play.
VU was efficient on both sides of the ball, limiting its own mistakes while spreading production across the roster. Kenli Sullivan led the offense with 10 kills, two aces, and six digs, while Taryn Thuis added seven kills on .429 hitting. Nicole De La Cruz chipped in six kills and a team-high four blocks, and Paulina Krawczyk added five kills. Rylee Edwards directed the attack with 14 assists, two aces, and two digs, while Scarlet Konkel contributed 11 assists and four digs. Defensively, libero Adaline Eisenmann anchored the back row with 15 digs.
Head Coach Gary Sien was pleased with how his team handled the challenge of playing its first match since receiving national recognition earlier in the week, as the Trailblazers received votes in the latest NJCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Top 20 national poll. "This is the first game for us after receiving some National recognition, so the thought is, how do we handle it? The target on our back just got bigger and heavier," Sien said. "I thought we handled it very well. The serve receive was exceptional, with only two passing errors. Adaline did an excellent job taking charge of the back row, Kenli had her usual steady game in both the front and back rows, and both she and Rylee went on long serving runs that gave us momentum. Taryn also had a very good hitting game with strong connections to our setters."
Sien also noted that Southeastern Illinois played tough at stretches, but he was proud of how his young group continued to respond. "We had some issues stopping their offense at points, but overall it went well and we were able to put in all available players," he said. "With more pressure now, this young team is getting the experience and the confidence to achieve more and more."
The Trailblazers (11-1, 5-0 Region 24) now turn their attention to a pair of home Region 24 matchups this weekend at the P.E. Complex. VU will host Shawnee Community College on Friday, Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m. (EST) before taking on Wabash Valley College on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 12 p.m. (EST).
